PURPOSE
Many gas compression applications require dew-point control prior to compression in order to maintain longevity of the gas compressors. Such refrigeration packages are available to lower relative humidity in the feed gas in a range of sizes up to 1.5 mm BTUH.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Saturated feed gas is cooled in an economizer while heating the gas going to the compressor suction. Pre-cooled feed gas is then cooled further in a chiller. Condensate is drained from a knockout drum and gas is returned to the compressor. Economizer, direct expansion chiller, knockout drum and associated piping is typically 304SS. Refrigeration side piping is carbon steel depending upon the refrigerant.
BENEFITS
- Removes condensate, lowers relative humidity and sends dry gas to compressor without free water.
- Optimizes gas compressor selection and enhances its life.
- Permits the use of single compound screw compressors without interstage cooling in place of two separate stages with inter-stage cooling.
- Reduces overall equipment cost, foot-print and installation expense.
- Improves energy input.
APPLICATIONS
- Wet CO2 gas stream
- Water saturated Natural Gas
- Landfill Gas
- Digester Gas
